For some time ago, I spoke with an investor about the ongoing e-liquids and vaping bans. From a purely medical point of view, e-liquids or vaping bans don’t make any sense, especially when cigarette smoking is widely available. Moreover, many smokers have been using vaping to quit smoking with higher successful rates than other smoke replacement therapies.

My investor friend has experience collaborating with top vaping brands, and we all know that there is something else behind it than just health concerns.

The question is: are vapers going back to smoking? If so, is this the best-case scenario for human health? Probably, some people would say that the best-case scenario is a society completely free of drugs. However, substances have been part of humanity for thousands of years and they weren’t just recreational drugs. On the contrary, drugs have been used for their medical and psychological properties for thousands of years.

Vaping to Quit Smoking

The main and primary use of e-cigarettes is using vaping to quit smoking.

Smoking has been a harmful and deadly habit for many smokers. For example, tobacco smoking is the primary cause of lung and heart disease. In addition, tobacco smoking increases 2 to 4 times the risk for coronary disease. Furthermore, the risk for stroke is also about 2 to 4 times most likely to happen if you smoke.

Moreover, we all know that the primary cause of lung cancer is caused by tobacco smoking. For example, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is estimated that smoking increases the risks of developing lung cancer by 25 times.

However, not all is harmful and negative about tobacco. The main problem with tobacco is derived from the combustion of the plant material. To put it in another way, the combustion of the plant material produces tar, a resinous substance that forms a sticky layer inside the lungs.  In addition, there are more than 7000 toxic substances identified in tobacco cigarettes. Hence, it can be considered a very harmful “chemical cocktail” with very serious health consequences.

Using vaping to quit smoking became increasingly popular for millions of smokers. Consequently, the vaping industry has drastically developed over the last decade. Furthermore, there are studies proving the efficiency of vaping as a method to stop smoking.

Smoking Rates in Teens

We have heard many positive and negative news about vaping. However, the truth is tobacco smoking has declined for the last 42 years. Young people are not smoking as much as they used to do for 20 or 30 years ago. The graph below shows the decrease in youth smoking over the last decades:

This are great news. The smoking rates have been decreasing for the last decades and fewer and fewer young people are smoking. Nonetheless, we are against youth vaping as vaping devices are not designed for teens but for ex-smokers and adults.

We get many messages from thousands of smokers who have succeeded to quit the smoking habit thanks to vaping. Using vaping to quit smoking is still controversial, but it is undeniable that it has helped thousands of smokers to stop smoking.

We are smoking less but, tobacco smoking is still used by millions of people over the world. Many people are using vaping to quit smoking and also as an efficient method to progressively reduce their nicotine intake.

For instance, nicotine e-liquids come in different concentrations. This is intended for users who want different nicotine strengths and also to help reduce their nicotine intake. Moreover, smokers who have recently quit the habit need higher concentrations of nicotine, otherwise they risk craving for tobacco.

Using Vaping to Quit Smoking: Nicotine Dose

There is not perfect nicotine dose. On the contrary, it depends on the vaper and his/her nicotine tolerance. For instance, it is essential to choose the right nicotine strength in order to prevent risks of craving for tobacco.

If you were/are a heavy smoker, then nicotine e-liquids ranging from 12 mg/ml to 18 mg/ml are a good nicotine concentration for you. On the contrary, if you are not a heavy smoker, you better choose low nicotine concentrations. Otherwise, you might feel uncomfortable with symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, coughs and throat hits.

Vaping and Health Issues

The sudden appearance of these cases in recent months suggests that these medical cases are related to some type of acute condition caused by some toxic agent. As a matter of fact, many sources link this mysterious vaping-related condition to black-market e-juices.

Nonetheless, there is a lot of controversy in the US about vaping and health issues. However, there are no evidences proving that vaping is harmful to human health. We have posted information about vaping and health concerns. Apparently, about 80% of the patients who suffered from respiratory problems after vaping indicated that they have been vaping black-market THC e-liquids.

As previously mentioned, the truth is that using vaping to quit smoking has been an efficient and healthier alternative for many smokers. However, black-market e-liquids that haven’t passed any quality controls are dangerous. Therefore, we always recommend staying away from black-market e-juices and only buy reputable and regulated e-liquids.

In conclusion, you should not worry about vaping and health issues if you vape good quality e-liquids.
