Can you vape vitamins? Vaping vitamins is a new trend in the vaping community. Actually, it has been quite popular for a while. But what is vitamin vaping?

Vitamin vaping is basically the process of inhaling vapor containing vitamins. For instance, there are companies that offer pods or e-juices with vitamin B12 or vitamin C.

Many users are concerned about the benefits of vitamin vaping. Furthermore, some people wonder if vitamin vaping is harmful to lungs.

This is another controversial topic in the vaping community and there is no scientific consensus about vitamin vaping.

What’s vaping vitamins?

It’s just the process of inhaling vitamins. The e-liquids or pods contain vitamins that the vaper inhales the same way as any other e-liquid.

However, there aren’t scientific conclusions about the absorption of vitamins through the respiratory tract. Most of the vitamin vaping companies claim that vitamins can be absorbed through the lungs. Nevertheless, there are no peer-reviewed articles nor preliminary researches about this subject.

On one hand, the vitamin vaping industry claims that vitamins could be perfectly absorbed through the respiratory tract. On the other hand, the scientific community states that there is not enough research or data to claim that vitamin vaping is safe or an efficient method for vitamin intake.

What’s vitamin B12 for and can you vape vitamin B12?

I have realized that most of the ads about vaping vitamins is about vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an important vitamin as it is involved in the metabolism of every cell. It is very important for the functioning of the nervous system and for the synthesis of myelin.

Vitamin B12 is obtained from consuming animal products, which means that vegans need vitamin B12 supplements.

Can you vape vitamin B12? Yes, you can find vitamin B12 e-liquids. However, as previously mentioned, it’s not clear if its absorption through the respiratory tract is efficient.

Moreover, our body can store vitamin B12 for years, which means that, unless you have some rare health condition that impedes vitamin B12 absorption, you probably don’t need any supplements or vaping vitamin B12.

B12 vitamin deficiency

There are cases of people that suffer from vitamin B12 deficiency anemia. Basically, people with B12 anemia suffer from lack of intrinsic factor (also known as gastric intrinsic factor) glycoprotein. In other words, the glycoprotein that it necessary for the absorption of vitamin B12 in the stomach.

Generally, when someone suffers from anemia caused by vitamin deficiency, the most common treatment is getting an intramuscular injection.

To sum up, if you eat fish, meat, eggs or drink milk, you will get enough vitamin B12. However, if you follow a vegan or vegetarian diet, then you need vitamin B12 supplements in your diet.

Because it hasn’t been proved that we can absorb B12 vitamin through the respiratory tract, vitamin B12 is not recommended to anybody who suffers from vitamin B12 deficiency anemia caused by a lack of intrinsic factor.

Can you vape vitamin C?

There are products that are commercialized as vitamin C e-liquids, pods or pens. However, this is the same case as B12 vitamin vaping. It hasn’t been proved that the respiratory tract can efficiently absorb C vitamin.

Not long ago, many sailors suffered from lack of C vitamin, also known as scurvy. It wasn’t until the end of XVIII that British navy doctors discovered that scurvy could be treated with citrus fruits.

So, can you vape vitamin C? The answer is Yes again. It won’t harm your health, but you’re not going to vape vitamin C for nothing, right? We are talking about the same case as vitamin B12, we don’t have enough scientific data to prove that we can efficiently absorb vitamin C through our respiratory tract.

And again, if we eat enough citrus fruits or bell pepper, broccoli, tomatoes and many other foods, then we don’t even need any vitamin C supplement. Moreover, it is not recommended to surpass the recommended levels of vitamin C. In addition, excess of vitamin C can cause many side effects.

It sounds cool to vape vitamins, but, honestly, if you follow a healthy diet and you eat enough fruit or vitamin B12 sources, then why do you want to vape them instead?

Moreover, the recommended vitamin C daily amount for men is 90 mg and 75 mg for women.

Is vitamin vaping bad for your lungs?

You don’t need to worry about harming your lungs. Vaping is safe unless you vape toxic substances. However, vitamin intake through the respiratory tract hasn’t been proved as an efficient method to absorb vitamins.

The benefits of vitamin vaping are minimal. Firstly, you don’t even need vitamin supplements if you have a standard diet. Secondly, if you are a vegan or a vegetarian you have many food supplements that can provide you with the necessary vitamins.

Vaping vitamins: Conclusion

The conclusion is simple: not enough scientific data. Moreover, we can perfectly absorb vitamins through our digestive system. Does the respiratory tract absorb more vitamins or better? The benefits of vaping vitamins could be perhaps interesting for people who suffer from B12 deficiency anemia, but we definitely need more studies to determine if vaping vitamins is an efficient intake method.

Finally, we don’t need lots of vitamin supplements to be healthy. As a matter of fact, 90 mg of vitamin C for men and 75 mg of vitamin C for women are the recommended doses.

Surpassing the recommended doses could also cause side effects. For instance, it is not recommended to ingest more than 2000 mg per day of vitamin C. Otherwise, you could experience diarrhea, nausea or insomnia to name just a few side effects.

We welcome any new healthy methods in the vaping industry. However, in this case, vaping vitamins needs more research.
